Detroit Tigers' Andrew Romine will play all 9 positions on Sunday if Twins clinch

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Andrew Romine was wearing catcher’s gear on Wednesday afternoon.

The Tigers utilityman caught a bullpen session from right-hander Buck Farmer and began getting acclimated with the intricacies of catching in short-order: Barring something crazy happening, Romine will play all nine positions in the regular season finale against the Twins on Sunday, manager Brad Ausmus said.

Ausmus initially proposed the idea of playing Romine at all nine positions against a non-contending team last home stand, but after talking with general manager Al Avila, opted to delay the move until the end of the season.
