David Vinsky got his shot at Northwood. Now he's getting one with St. Louis Cardinals

The Detroit Tigers took Florida high school outfielder Riley Greene with the No. 5 pick in the 2019 MLB draft on Monday, June 3 in Secaucus, N.J. Ryan Ford, Detroit Free Press

Jordan Bischel gave David Vinsky his only chance.

The 6-foot, 200-pound first baseman had no college baseball options, until the then-Northwood University coach took a risk.

It certainly panned out, as three years later, Vinsky was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 15th round (No. 455 overall) on Wednesday.

“It’s been my dream ever since I can remember,” Vinsky told the Free Press a few hours after being drafted.
