PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Five days ago, Daniel Norris threw two innings and 31 pitches in his first spring start against a Murderer's Row of New York Yankees sluggers.
On Monday afternoon he faced four less-imposing New York Mets batters (one of whom was Tim Tebow) in the eighth inning, threw about a dozen pitches and then was done for the day.
It was, to say the least, a bit odd.
To continue on the normal path for a pitcher getting "stretched out" to start, Norris should have thrown three innings and about 40-50 pitches today.
