Ausmus gives Castellanos day off; Aviles starts at 3B

Third baseman Nick Castellanos isn’t in the lineup today for the Tigers, after going 4-for-4 with a run scored in a 4-0 win over the Yankees on Friday. Castellanos isn’t ill or injured.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus had planned to use Mike Aviles at third base and stuck with that decision despite the good game from the team’s regular third baseman.

Aviles has batted .360 (9-for-25) against Yankees lefty C.C. Sabathia, one of the reasons Ausmus wanted to play him at third today.

Castellanos, who hit .351 (40-for-125) against lefties last season, is 1-for-2 in his career against Sabathia.
