The 35-year-old arrived in Columbus in 2014 after seven seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers. In the 2016-17 season, Hartnell had 37 points in 78 appearances. During the postseason he failed to produce a point in four games.
With Hartnell now available, the Detroit Red Wings may be interested in signing the veteran forward.
