WASHINGTON — The Detroit Red Wings felt good about themselves, better than the score reflected.

In the midst of a stretch against teams that sit above Detroit in the NHL standings, the Wings took on the defending Stanley Cup champions and did not look out of place. They even outplayed them at times.

“We didn’t feel like we were outmanned or weren’t ready to play,” Dylan Larkin said after Friday’s 3-1 loss to the Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena.
