The Detroit Red Wings added to their defense corps Sunday, claiming Olli Juolevi off waivers from the Florida Panthers.
That gives the Wings nine defensemen, but one or more could be moved before the March 21 trade deadline. In other roster moves, Joe Veleno was assigned to Grand Rapids, clearing the way for Jakub Vrana to be taken off injured reserve in anticipation of returning as soon as Tuesday against the Arizona Coyotes.
Juolevi, 23, had no points in 10 games with the Panthers this season. He's the latest reclamation project for general manager Steve Yzerman, who earlier this season claimed, then waived, forward Gemel Smith.
