DETROIT - Not a whole lot was happening Saturday afternoon in the third period between the Detroit Red Wings and Colorado Avalanche.
Then Tomas Tatar took over.
Tatar scored a pair of goals in a span of 1:36, breaking a tie, igniting a four-goal in the third period and sending the Red Wings to a 5-1 victory at Joe Louis Arena.
Detroit (28-31-11) has won two in a row following a loss Wednesday against the Avalanche (20-47-3), who have by far the worst record in the NHL.
Tatar leads the team with 20 goals. That's two more than he scored last season.
