Tomas Tatar and the Detroit Red Wings did not wait for an arbitrator's decision. The sides came to an agreement Friday afternoon on a four-year deal that will pay the forward an average of $5.3 million per season.
The deal buys three years of Tatar's unrestricted free agency.
Prior to arbitration, Tatar was seeking $6 million annually for six or seven years, and the club offered five years at $5 million per season.
On Thursday morning, Tatar and the Red Wings argued their respective cases before an arbitrator in Toronto. From that point, the arbitrator had within 48 hours to make a decision.
