The Seattle Kraken and the Detroit Red Wings both have an octopus mascot. How are they different?

After two years of waiting, NHL fans finally learned the identity of the next franchise to join the league. Ownership in Seattle announced on Thursday that their team would be called the "Kraken," a mythical cepholopd historically depicted in literature and movies.

But the Detroit Red Wings, one of the members of the NHL's Original Six, have had ties to a real octopus since the 1950s when one purchased from a local market was thrown onto the ice.
