Steve Yzerman painted a picture of his life in Detroit when he was met with disbelief.

Yzerman was surrounded by reporters after the news conference announcing his return to the organization with which he is synonymous, from his days as “the Captain” to his new role as general manager.

During the media event, he was seated on a dais flanked by Chris Ilitch on Yzerman’s right and Ken Holland on the left.

The formalities hit every note needed: Ilitch speaking glowingly of Yzerman’s history with the Wings, Ilitch lauding Holland for the job he did as general manager, Yzerman crediting Holland with teaching him about the front-office details of running a team, and emphasizing relying on forthwith relying on Holland’s input in his new role as senior vice president.
