DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings have been informed that forward Tomas Tatar will file for salary arbitration today, ensuring he will have a new deal with the club not later than early August.
Tatar is now precluded from receiving an offer sheet from another team.
Arbitration hearings take place from July 20 to Aug. 4 in Toronto, but Tatar more than likely will have a deal before then. The Red Wings rarely reach the hearing stage with a player, which can be unpleasant for both sides. Tatar and the club now have urgency to work out a deal.
