The Detroit Red Wings played hard against the best team in the NHL, even as the talent disparity stood out.
Hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning Thursday at Little Caesars Arena in a rare home appearance this month, the Wings put in a good effort, but could not overcome four scoring lines and some of the NHL's best players. The Lightning showed off in the third period, scoring four times to hand the Wings a 5-4 loss.
Madison Bowey, Darren Helm and Justin Abdelkader scored for the Wings before the Lightning struck. Steven Stamkos scored his 35th goal of the season when he sent the puck in off Jimmy Howard during a power play in the second period.
