Red Wings recall Griffins goalie Tom McCollum to serve as backup Tuesday

Veteran goalie Tom McCollum will serve as the backup to Jimmy Howard for the Detroit Red Wings' game Tuesday at Columbus.

McCollum was recalled on emergency conditions Tuesday because of an illness to Jared Coreau.

The 28-year-old McCollum, 28, has an 18-13-3 record, 2.71 goals-against average, .909 save percentage and one shutout.

He has won each of his last six starts, helping the Griffins climb to a second-place tie in the Central Division on the heels of a seven-game point streak (6-0-0-1) with five games to play in the AHL's regular season.

McCollum, in his ninth professional season, has appeared in three games for the Red Wings, most recently in two games in 2014-15.
