DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings reassigned goaltender Jared Coreau to the Grand Rapids Griffins on Thursday.
The move was made because Jimmy Howard was activated following a two-game conditioning stint with the Griffins. Howard has been out since Dec. 20 with a sprained MCL.
Coreau, 25, went 5-4-3, with a 3.46 goals-against average, .887 save percentage and two shutouts in 14 appearances as a rookie.
He had some impressive outings - shutouts at Los Angeles and home against Montreal and a 1-0 overtime loss to the New York Rangers. But he struggled his past four starts, going 0-3-1, with a 5.
