DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings' defense will look much different in a couple of years after several veterans depart.
The organization's shortage of high-end blue line prospects provides an opportunity that many recent draft picks, including Kasper Kotkansalo, hope to seize.
"I'm definitely hoping to be that guy someday," Kotkansalo said. "I don't know how long it takes for me right now, but I'm trying to just develop in college and then hopefully make a step at some point. There's no real timeline, but I know I'll be the guy someday."
Kotkansalo is a decent-sized (6-2, 196) two-way defenseman who is mobile and physical.
