Evgeny Svechnikov's season appears to be over before it began.
The Detroit Red Wings announced Tuesday that Svechnikov will be out 5-6 months after undergoing successful surgery to reconstruct his right anterior cruciate ligament,
It was performed by Dr. Kyle Anderson.
Svechnikov, 21, was placed on non-roster injured reserve on Oct. 1 after suffering the knee injury in Detroit's preseason finale, a 5-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sept. 29 at Little Caesars Arena.
