RALEIGH, N.C. — On a night they didn’t have much going offensively, having a presence in front of the net made the difference.
The Detroit Red Wings didn’t play as well as they’re capable Thursday at PNC Arena, especially for the first two periods, but they still banked a 4-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.
It didn’t look promising as the Wings surrendered three breakaways just in the first period, and Jonathan Bernier was kept busy by the shot-happy Hurricanes. But when the Wings did get chances, having bodies in front of Carolina’s net enabled goals from Niklas Kronwall, Frans Nielsen and Jonathan Ericsson.
