Not only did the Wings elect not to take on one big disappointing contract, they’re now in the process of at least giving themselves the opportunity to partially deal with one they already have.
Nielsen has this season and the next remaining on his six-year deal with Detroit at a cap hit of $5.25M.
The cap hit isn’t a problem for Detroit this season, and they won’t get more than $1.
