Red Wings need boost from power play in close games

DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings played well enough to defeat the hottest team in the NHL Saturday but couldn't covert on ample chances in regulation or enough opportunities in the shootout.

Sam Reinhart's goal in the seventh round of the shootout earned the Buffalo Sabres their ninth consecutive victory, 3-2 at Little Caesars Arena.

The Red Wings, for the sixth time in nine games, erased a deficit in the third period to send the game to overtime.

"We did a lot of good things," Detroit defenseman Niklas Kronwall said. "We're never out of it.
