Red Wings lose in shootout to Sabres, who win ninth in row

DETROIT - Sam Reinhart's goal in the seventh round of a shootout Saturday lifted Buffalo to a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena, extending the Sabres' winning streak to nine games.

The Red Wings managed only one goal, by Andreas Athanasiou, against Linus Ullmark in the shootout.

The Red Wings (10-10-3) had their four-game home winning streak snapped. Buffalo improved to 16-6-2.

Dylan Larkin and Anthony Mantha scored in regulation for the Red Wings. Jimmy Howard made 33 saves. Ullmark stopped 35 shots.

The Sabres scored both of their goals in regulation on the power play and an excellent opportunity to finish it in overtime when Larkin was called for holding Jack Eichel at 55-second mark.
