Team USA played its quarterfinal game against Russia Thursday at the world championships without forward Dylan Larkin of the Red Wings.

And the Americans will be without Larkin for the remainder of the tournament, this weekend in Slovakia, if they were to defeat Russia.

The Red Wings’ star forward was unavailable, said Wings and Team USA coach Jeff Blashill, after getting hit with a slapshot in the groin area Tuesday against Canada.

“(Larkin) will be fine but out for the tourney,” Blashill wrote in a text message to The Detroit News.
