Detroit Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin scored a pair of goals Tuesday as the United States won its lone World Championship pre-tournament game, defeating Italy 5-2 in Milan.
The U.S. opens the tournament Friday against host Germany in Cologne (2:15 p.m., NHL Network).
Larkin scored twice in the second period as the U.S. outshot Italy 31-22. Jack Eichel (Buffalo) and Jacob Trouba (Winnipeg) tallied power-play goals and Nick Bjugstad added an even-strength goal for Team USA.
Detroit defenseman Danny DeKeyser registered one assist.
Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard started the game and allowed one goal on 10 shots in 31:38.
