Red Wings clipped in shootout loss to Islanders

Uniondale, N.Y. — This was an enjoyable evening all the way around, the opportunity to play and watch hockey at the Nassau Coliseum again as the New York Islanders have partially returned to their original home.

For the Red Wings it wasn’t as enjoyable, as they dropped a 4-3 shootout to the Islanders Saturday.

Thomas Vanek tied the game 3-3, after the Wings had pulled goaltender Jonathan Bernier, with 1:03 left in regulation.

Vanek was alone in front of the net and tapped in his fourth goal, ending a nine-game goal-scoring slump. Vanek also had two assists in the game.
