Reactions to Petr Mrazek’s Placement on Unprotected List

It was a puzzling decision for many on Sunday as Mrazek was left off the protected list. There was still a level of uncertainty coming into Sunday as to which player would be protected. Just a year ago, the organization was certain Mrazek was the top option in net.

Mrazek finished the 2016-17 season with a .901 save percentage and 3.04 goals against average in 50 appearances. Howard had a .927 save percentage and a 2.10 goals against average and .927 save percentage in 26 appearances.

Howard, with a contract through 2019, is 33 and has less upside than Mrazek.
