The Winnipeg Jets had the advantage in the first period but Detroit had the lone goal thanks to a shorty by Gagner late in the period.
In the second period the Wings had the advantage but the Jets had the only goal. Game tied 1-1 after forty minutes.
With just under 11 minutes to play in the third, Detroit scored to make it 2-1.
The Jets pulled their goalie with over three minutes left but Detroit played strong defense and added an eng late to make the final 3-1.
