While fighting continues long trend of decline in the NHL, the Wings believe occasional fisticuffs unite a roster in transition and makes it tougher to play.

I’m cool with fighting and if the Wings are game to drop the gloves and it brings the team closer together... fine by me.

To be clear, however, staged fights are dumb. I don’t need to see two 4th line goons who can’t actually play hockey drop the gloves off a faceoff just because. That’s lame. I don’t have any issue with teams sticking up for their teammates. If Dylan Larkin takes a borderline hit and Tyler Bertuzzi or another teammate* wants to step up and defend him.
