The Detroit Red Wings are about to find out where they will make their pick in the 2020 draft.
The lottery is scheduled for Friday after being postponed from its original April date because of COVID-19. The pandemic forced the NHL to put the 2019-20 season on hold March 12, at which point the Wings already were guaranteed to finish last.
The pandemic has led to a different look for the draft lottery: There will be three to six drawings over one or two phases, comprised of the seven teams that are not part of the 24-team “return to play” plan, plus eight place-holders for the teams that will lose in the qualifying round.
