After taking a forward in the first round, the Red Wings took a defenseman in the second round. The 18-year-old Lindstrom joins the organization after playing in the Allsvenskan, Swedish second division, this past season.

In the 2015-16 season, the defenseman played for Almtuna J18 team. He was the top scoring defenseman that season with ten goals in 16 appearances. Additionally, that was his most productive offensive season with 18 points total.
