NHL bans referee caught on hot-mic moment during Detroit Red Wings game

An referee who was caught making a comment during a Detroit Red Wings game will no longer officiate in the NHL.

Colin Campbell, the league’s senior executive vice president of hockey operations, announced today that Tim Peel “will no longer be working NHL games now or in the future” according to a release.

Peel was one of the officials during Tuesday’s game between the Wings and Nashville Predators. Early in the second period, Viktor Arvidsson was called for tripping Jon Merrill. Merrill appeared to fall on his own, but Arvidsson was sent to the penalty box.
