The Detroit Red Wings unloaded veteran defenseman Mike Green, creating an opening for a potential look at the top defense prospect in the organization.
General manager Steve Yzerman is also considering deals for forward Andreas Athanasiou and defenseman Trevor Daley
Green, 34, was shipped to the Edmonton Oilers overnight Monday, less than 24 hours before the 3 p.m. Monday deadline. The Wings will receive either a fourth-round pick in the 2020 NHL entry draft, or a third-round pick in 2021 if the Oilers advance to the 2020 conference finals and Green plays in 50% of the games.
