DETROIT -- Detroit Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill will return for third season behind the bench in 2017-18, general manager Ken Holland confirmed Tuesday.
The Red Wings (33-36-13) missed the playoffs for the first time since 1989-90 and finished with 79 points, their lowest total since 1991. But Holland said he believes Blashill is the right man to lead the team, based partly in his resume of having won at lower levels, including the 2013 Calder Cup championship with the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins.
More details shortly.
