LAKELAND, Fla. — Chris Ilitch gave Tigers general manager Al Avila, who still has a few years left on his deal, a vote of confidence Saturday morning at Publix Field. Ilitch did not do the same thing when asked about Red Wings general manager Ken Holland, who is in the final year of his contract.

Ilitch, who oversees the family empire and owns the Detroit Red Wings and Tigers, wouldn’t say anything about Holland’s future or whether he would want him back next season.
