TRAVERSE CITY - Henrik Zetterberg assumed the Detroit Red Wings captaincy in 2012. Since then, he's played more games (414) and racked up far more points (336) than anyone else who has worn the winged wheel.
As their leader, he set an example on and off the ice, and even at age 37, with back issues continuing to mount, he was their best player on many nights in 2017-18.
Now he's done playing, making it official Friday, and it leaves the Red Wings with a huge void in leadership and ability.
"He's one of the best warriors I've been around," coach Jeff Blashill said.
