Goalie Jared Coreau is expected to rejoin the Grand Rapids Griffins for practice Tuesday, and coach Todd Nelson is eager to meet with him.
Nelson wants to know where Coreau is mentally after a brutal stint with the Red Wings because there are three regular-season games remaining before he must decide who will be in the nets when the Griffins open the playoffs.
It is between veteran Tom McCollum, who has been impressive since Coreau's departure in mid-February, and Coreau, who before his struggles in Detroit was the AHL goalie of the month for February.
"Tommy has been playing his best hockey right now; he played exceptional last game," Nelson said of a 4-1 win Saturday at Tucson.
