Detroit selects Swedish forward Lucas Raymond at fourth overall

Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman chose

The 18-year-old left wing (though he shoots right) played most of 2019-20 in the SHL, registering 10 points in 33 games with Frolunda. Raymond (5-11, 170) is high hockey-IQ guy, plays with physicality, and is responsible in his own end.

The New York Rangers selected Alexis Lafreniere with the first overall pick. The Los Angeles Kings grabbed Quinton Byfield at second overall, and Ottawa Senators drafted Tim Stützle at third.

A year after making defenseman Moritz Seider his first selection since taking over as general manager of the Detroit Red Wings in April 2019, Yzerman made his second biggest move in putting his imprint on the team.
