Detroit Red Wings: Trevor Daley brings many key elements to blue line

DETROIT - Trevor Daley is not the elite, top-pair defenseman the Detroit Red Wings have been seeking since Nicklas Lidstrom retired in 2012.

But he brings many elements the blue line needs, Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said.

"One of his greatest assets is his ability to skate," Holland said. "We think Trevor is really going to be able to improve our defense and make our defense more mobile and deeper. He can play left defense, he can play right defense. He can go back and get the puck, he can snap a pass and at the same time, he can also transport it and join the rush.
