Joe Veleno left an impression on the Detroit Red Wings: He appears closer to being NHL ready than they expected.
But he still needs work.
Veleno has been returned to his junior team, Drummondville in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, with instructions on how to leave an even stronger impression next year. Through the prospects tournament and three preseason appearances, he showed a craftiness for making plays in tight areas, even as he played against a Penguins team that included high-end players.
