DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings struck fast after free agency opened at open, signing their top target.
The Red Wings have inked defenseman Trevor Daley to a three-year deal worth $9.5 million total.
He is not an impact player, but he is mobile and moves the puck well. The 13-year NHL veteran coming off consecutive Stanley Cup championships with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He will turn 34 on Oct. 9.
His cap hit will be $3.178 million.
Daley (5-11, 195) is a left-handed shooter who might be paired with Mike Green, if the Red Wings opt to keep intact the Danny DeKeyser-Nick Jensen pairing.
