Detroit Red Wings see Trevor Daley boosting 5-on-5 production

Part of Trevor Daley’s appeal is he may help the Detroit Red Wings score more goals.

The Wings came away from the opening weekend of free agency having spent what little salary cap space they have on Daley, targeting the 33-year-old defenseman as the best bang-for-buck option.

“The thing I like about him is, he can produce offense 5-on-5,” coach Jeff Blashill told the Free Press. “Not just himself, but his ability to get the puck out of our end and push the puck up the ice.”

The Wings ranked in the bottom five of the NHL last season at 198 goals-for, and were in the middle of the pack in 5-on-5 goals, with 144.
