Detroit Red Wings place Frans Nielsen on IR, activate Steve Ott

The Detroit Red Wings will be without workhorse Frans Nielsen at least two more games but are regaining the services of Steve Ott.

General manager Ken Holland told the Free Press today that Nielsen has been placed on injured reserve, requiring a minimum stay of seven days. Nielsen suffered an upper body injury Friday against the New York Islanders. Seven days means he will miss (at least) Tuesday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and Thursday’s game at Washington.

Ott has been out with a shoulder injury since mid-January. He brings energy, kills penalties and takes face-offs.
