Jimmy Howard was the first Detroit Red Wings player to skate onto the ice, beating his teammates by a good 10 minutes.

The lone sound of the goalie's skates on the ice Wednesday echoed eerily — and that was just in the practice facility inside Little Caesars Arena. The Wings purposely eschewed practicing on the main ice, because without fans, it’d be weird.

Weird might be on the horizon, though, as fears of coronavirus is forcing daily, if not hourly, evaluation of public events.
