LOS ANGELES — The Detroit Red Wings had to make do with five defensemen most of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Kings.
Trevor Daley suffered an injury during the first period at Staples Center, and did not return. Daley fell awkwardly after appearing to get a skate caught along the boards during a faceoff. As he fell forward, his head hit a Kings player’s knee. The Wings called it an upper-body injury, and did not immediately have any further status update.
The Wings already are without veteran defensemen Mike Green (virus), Jonathan Ericsson (upper body) and Niklas Kronwall (undisclosed).
