Detroit Red Wings' Jimmy Howard has bigger burden now in 'toughest stretch of my career'

Jimmy Howard is confident he can regain his footing because he has done it before.

The spotlight is on the goalie at least through the All-Star break, which begins Jan. 23. That is the minimum amount of time the Detroit Red Wings anticipate being without Jonathan Bernier, who is recovering from a lower-body injury. He was hurt during the 3-2 shootout win Friday against the Ottawa Senators.

Howard went through a short practice Monday in preparation for Tuesday’s game against the New York Islanders at Barclays Center. Dylan Larkin, Frans Nielsen and Patrik Nemeth did not skate, but they are expected to be available.
