Detroit Red Wings get a bigger budget for the 2017-18 season

Over the weekend, NHL teams found out budgets for the coming season can be a little bit bigger.

The salary cap range for 2017-18 will be a lower limit of $55.4 million, and upper limit of $75 million. The salary range for this past season was $54 million to $73 million.

As it stands right now, that gives the Detroit Red Wings a touch less than $8 million to spend. That will increase once they lose a player to the Vegas Golden Knights in the expansion draft – perhaps by as much as $4 million, if the Knights select Petr Mrazek.
