Detroit Red Wings' Dennis Cholowski scores in NHL debut, season opener

A special night for Dennis Cholowski became a night he won't soon forget.

Cholowski, making his NHL debut in the Detroit Red Wings' season opener against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday, scored the team's first goal of the night to tie the game, 1-1.

The 20-year-old defenseman spent most of last season in the Western Hockey League but made the opening-night roster, in part thanks to injuries to Niklas Kronwall, Mike Green and Jonathan Ericsson.

With 7:46 played in the second period, Cholowski buried a centering pass from Dylan Larkin past goalie Joonas Korpisalo.
