Danny DeKeyser plays for the Detroit Red Wings for $5 million a season, but the defenseman took classes during the offseason to earn his general studies degree from Western Michigan.

His parents, Linda and Mick, attended the ceremony on Saturday at Miller Auditorium on the Kalamazoo campus.

He said his first focus was to not trip walking up the stage to shake university president Edward Montgomery's hand, then the feelings came in.
