BOSTON -- With a dozen games crammed into the next three weeks, the Detroit Red Wings are gaining a veteran just in time to help spell starting goalie Petr Mrazek.
After a second -- and, this time, successful -- two-game stint in the minors, Jimmy Howard is ready to be activated, general manager Ken Holland told the Free Press today. Holland said Howard, who has been on long-term injured reserve after suffering a sprained right knee Dec. 20 at Tampa Bay, will be activated and flipped for Jared Coreau, who has been with the Wings on emergency recall since Howard’s injury.
