The Detroit Red Wings scored first, converted on the road and outshot their opponent.
They still couldn’t topple the Tampa Bay Lightning. Forced by the loss of Anthony Mantha to play a short bench most of the game Thursday at Amalie Arena, the Wings came up short, 5-3, as the Lightning swept the season series.
“I don’t think our compete level was up to par with what we need,” Niklas Kronwall said. “You do some good things out there, but at the end, we’re standing here with no points again. It’s getting old.
