Dandy debut: Svechnikov scores shootout winner

Detroit – Quite the debut for Evgeny Svechnikov.

The Red Wings’ prospect, making his NHL debut, scored the lone goal in a seven-round shootout Monday clinching the team’s 5-4 win over Ottawa.

The Red Wings remain unbeaten, 9-0, in shootouts this season.

Both teams had incredible chances in overtime to win the game but goalies Petr Mrazek and Craig Anderson of Ottawa came through with brilliant saves.

Gustav Nyquist had a breakaway with just under two seconds remaining in overtime but didn’t convert as the time expired.

Ottawa tied it 4-4 on Fredrik Claesson’s goal at 12:31 of the third period.
